Notes from David Morris
2-25-06
Dear Friends,
The world has lost another incredible talent. The passing of the great
Don Knotts is a gigantic shock.
When you consider the body of work and the sheer magnitude of his
genius, many people would be surprised to learn how nice, gentle, and
down to earth he was with everyone.
Don and my father, Howard, had become good friends over the years since
appearing on The Andy Griffith Show. Howard was extremely fond of him.
They worked together on and off screen. My father directed Don on The
Andy Griffith Show, among others.
I met Don through my father many years ago. On a few occasions, I
actually had the pleasure of driving Don to attend a monthly gathering
of famous actors and comedians, a group my father had been a member of
for many years. Well, when my pop introduced Don to the group, he
became an instant "hit" and for obvious reasons Don was named as a
lifetime member on the spot.
Over the years, we would meet up and travel together to attend various
Mayberry events. Don was always very decent, and very funny. Don was
quiet, and extremely smart. The fact is it takes an enormous amount of
brains to realize, corral, refine, and ultimately present characters
the way he did, delivering some of the funniest moments ever in the
history of film and television.
Where does all of this lead to? Well, I have a sneaky feeling that
Barney is once again chasing Ernest T., and that Ernest T. is driving
Barney NUTS!
Don, we love and miss you!
Sincerely,
David Morris

Dear friends,
While reading through all the heartfelt messages so many of you posted
on the memorial
pages, I have been trying to come up with a worthy equal as
"thanks" for such an incredible outpouring of love, memories, and
support.
Since his passing, I've not been able to
turn off Howard's home phone out of a fear of experiencing even more
separation from him. Then it hit me. Why not give something back, and
share more of him with you?
So, here it is, Howard's actual home phone
number. Feel free to leave a message for Howard if you like. I'm sure
he would love it.
Howard Morris: 323-933-2155
Please note, the voicemail may have a limit
to the amount of messages, so on occasion I'll have to clear them to
make room.
Thank you all for the beautiful posts.
Sincerely,
David Morris

Howard Morris (1919-2005)
Dear friends,
I have extremely sad news to report of my dear father, Howard, who
suddenly passed away this afternoon (May 21, 2005).
He was without a doubt the
most amazing father.
In show business, Howard Morris "the star"
was one in a trillion, a true genius, and an entertainment dynamo. So
many "greats" in this business followed his career with incredible
admiration and respect. I for one am one of his biggest fans!
The Andy Griffith Show
became a major part of my father's life. He appeared in only five
episodes. Regardless, he made a permanent impression on so many people,
and was always amazed by and grateful for all of the love and support
his fans gave to him.
I shared with Howard every bit of mail that
came in, so I know firsthand how important your cards, emails, and
gifts were to him over the years.
All I can really say now is that I miss him
beyond words.
Thank you for being there!
Sincerely,
David Morris

- A MESSAGE FROM HOWARD MORRIS 9-20-04:

It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T!
Hi!
I have some trouble to report about me for 2003 & 2004. I spent
a lot of time in the hospital dealing with a circus of doctors, nurses,
medicine, needles, wheelchairs, visitors, pain, tears, and bad food.
All of this stuff and more 'till discharge.
Dreaming of the outside I became involved
in remembering and reflecting on all of the fans and your support.
After all the years in this business, it's a privilege to be reminded
of the joy and lovely remembering of all you guys.
The happiness I get from your reminders of
my performing past, I thank you and love you always!
Ernest T. Bass
aka Howard Morris
P.S. As of 9-28-04 I am
approaching a full recovery!
