I Dream of Genie - Twilight Zone
Feb 15th, 2006 at 4:27pm

I would like to say a few words about the Twilight Zone episode in which Mr. Morris starred, "I Dream of Genie".  Morris plays a mild-mannered bookkeeper who find a genie in a lamp and learns as a result, any wish he can think up will come true.  The show centers upon his deliberations and ultimately, he realizes that even if he wishes to be a big Hollywood hotshot, to be a rich tycoon, or even to be President of the United States -- he would be placed into the new environment still possessing all of his familiar foibles.  In the end, he knows that he'd just never be able to pull it off if he selected one of these traditional positions of prestige, power and wealth that so many aspire to.  In the end, he just finds a way to truly discover a new and very simple life which he knows he will enjoy - and he does succeed.  Its a great parable for how to live our lives and be comfortable in our own skin and not get caught up in the "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" thinking.  Mr. Morris is truly outstanding in this role and shows a tremendous range.  I've seen all the Twilight Zone's, and this is one of my favorites.  I am saddened by Mr. Morris' passing, and I wish his family the best.
