Although I grew up watching "The Andy Griffith Show" and have seen each episode at least 50 times, I still laugh so hard I hurt at Howard Morris as "Ernest T Bass". 

Howard was a true comic genius, and was really great at physical humor.  Of course that show was full of talented people, and some of the better episodes were in fact directed by Howard Morris.

He leaves his mark on any show he directed.  Its easy to tell a Howard Morris direction job:  its funny.  Be it Bob Newhart or Andy Griffith.  Too bad Howard never directed any of Dan Rather's CBS Evening News broadcasts.  Rather may still be around.
