Ernest T. talken through his nose
Dec 10th, 2004 at 7:04am

Hey Everybody.  In the episode where Ernest T. is going to Mrs. Willey's, I just love the part where Andy is trying to help Ernest T. with his speech.  He says that he has a twang to his voice and Ernest T. says he talks through his nose so he talk while he eats.  Very funny stuff!  Most of the time our local station and TV Land cuts that from the show and I hate that.  Does anybody know which season that show was in?  Naybe we'll be able to catch it all with the new DVD's coming out.  Well got to go.  Horatio Sad

The best part of Ernest T. is the way he pronounces things.  For example, on talking through his nose, he says "I talk that way so's I can talk whilst I eat."  I have lots of TAGS books at home so I am sure I can find out what season.

Back to ETB, there is one episode, maybe the same one, where he says something about how he learned how to wash his food before eating it from a racoon.  Andy says something like "You lived with a possum?" and ETB says "Yeah, a possum and a racoon, too."  The "too" is pronounced with two or three syllables.

Listening to some .wav files the other day, Briscoe Darling was talking about ETB giving them trouble.  Andy says something like "What have you done about it?"  Briscoe says "We thought about killin' 'im but we kinda hated to go that far."

Hey FREDT.  Yea, he talks great.  One of my favorite things to do is when someone rings the door bell at our house, I just love to say "Wonder who that could be?" in a Ernest T. voice. Beside your message it had a Otis quote, oh what a mess I've made of my life.  That episode is my very favorite Andy 'Aunt bee, the wardon" and speaking of classic quotes, the one you memtioned about Brisco is great too.  Got to go now, Horatio

After reading the interview on this website, I am much more appreciative of an actor's talent.  If not for Howard Morris' "insight", Ernest T. probably would not have been the popular character he is today.  In fact, the writing for Ernest T. was great but it's the acting, voice, intonation, nasal twang, accent, etc. that made him Ernest T.

In fact, I don't really like to talk about acting and the actors because, deep down inside, I like to think that Floyd, Andy, Barney, the Darlings, Ernest T. and the rest are all real people and they exist out there in NC "somewhere's else" and they never get older and they never change.

Maybe it's just me but when I turn on the local cable channel guide to see "what Andy's about tonight," that is, to look at the TVLand listing and see which episode is being shown, I usually just turn off the TV unless it's a black and white episode.  The only color ones I like (that come to mind) are Goober and the spaghetti (Andy had to eat it three times) and a few others.  The ones last week were the ones that started Sam and Mayberry RFD.  There is absolutely no comparison with the old black and white ones.

Hate to be picky but I would rather they start over with the first ones...

Yea, I like the B & W shows more to.  There are a few good color episodes and that is better than not getting to see Andy at all.  Plus, with the first season out on DVD now, we can watch B & W anytime we want to.  I just love those electronic marvels.  Got to go now, Horatio

Where have I heard that before..  "Wonder if it would work better if I used bigger wires." ???

One of my personal favorites is Barney telling Gomer (after telling him for five minutes there aren't any spiders under there... "Gomer, get down there with them spiders and get to work."

I loved it when Ernest T. was taking his army physical and the doctor was checking his ears and he said, "ahhhhh!"  The doctor looked at him funny and ETB said, "I don't know the word for ears."  The doctor said, "hush" and examined his ears and ETB said, "huuuuush."

Barney in The Loaded Goat:  "There she goes!"

Gomer:  "Citizen's Arrest.  Citizen's Arrest!"

Otis:  "Barney's in jail."

Barney:  "Pipe down, Otis!"

Hey y'all Smiley
When I found out about this site I came right here. I saw coolwhaler's post about my favorite episode where Ernest T. goes to Mrs. Wiley's (Episode 113 : My Fair Ernest T. Bass) The line I named myself for here and my all time favorite is:    " She called me a creatchtur;I ain't no creatchtur!"
I'm not sure about the spelling,I hope Howard reads this and can correct me if I'm wrong. Wink
